The Falling Leaves Rendezvous
The longest-running primitive skills gathering east of the Mississippi
The Falling Leaves Rendezvous is a week-long ancestral skills gathering held at Avalon in Westminster, South Carolina, put on by Earthskills Rendezvous, Inc. People camp together for a week of hands-on classes in heritage skills, from matchless fire making to foraging wild edible and medicinal plants. It's run by community members for community members, and it brings together folks of all ages. This year it runs October 19–25, 2026, and I'm honored to be teaching three classes.

Angela's classes
Herbal Bug Protection
A practical, field-tested class on protecting your family from insects the herbal way. We make a DEET-free bug spray, a post-tick liniment, and a bite relief remedy, and talk about what grows here and how to keep a simple supply at home.
Materials fee: $10
Children's Herbal First Aid Kit
For parents ready to build a go-to herbal kit for their family. We cover foundational herbs like calendula, plantain, elderberry, chamomile, and yarrow, then make a few remedies together: a skin salve, an elderberry oxymel, a tummy tea, a fever support preparation, and a sore throat soother.
Materials fee: $20
Herbal Beverages
Two of the oldest and most approachable herbal preparations: a drinking shrub and an oxymel, made from scratch. We talk through the history and medicine behind each, and how to turn them into mocktails, spritzers, and drinks everyone can enjoy.
In one of my other classes? Sign up above anyway. I'll be sharing more remedies on From the Hill, and you'll be the first to know.
